One of the world’s most populous cities, São Paulo is a bustling melting pot with nonstop activity

Brazilian fashion blogger, trendsetter and entrepreneur Helena Bordon shares her tips for an ideal day in the vibrant metropolis

W hen she’s not traveling the world with the runway circuit or taking a weekend getaway to the stunning Bahian beach town of Trancoso, Brazilian fashion blogger and entrepreneur Helena Bordon is enjoying all that her native São Paulo has to offer, which, as she told us during a recent chat in New York, is a lot: “São Paulo is like New York; there’s always something happening; it never stops. If you want to do something on a Monday—go out, drink with friends—you have it. You want to fix something? It’s open until 10 p.m. Everything is happening and so easy; I love that about it.”

Bordon began frequenting São Paulo’s most sophisticated locales at a young age, tagging along with her mother, Donata Meirelles, currently Vogue Brazil’s style director. But Bordon has grown up to become a fashion maven in her own right, and her style interests keep her perfectly positioned to always know what’s hip in her hometown—where, this April, a new Ralph Lauren store is opening.

Here, the industrious trendsetter describes an ideal day in São Paulo.

POWER MORNING

Madureira Sucos
This is where I like to have breakfast because it’s close to my house, in Itaim Paulista. It feels like you’re in Rio because the floors are like calçadão with the black and white tiles. They also have acai—which is amazing—and bread with a soft cheese on top. They have a list with, like, 100 different juices with different names like Detox, Hangover and Headache. Whatever you want, you can find it.

Madureira Sucos’ delicious, healthy acai smoothies and calçadão-inspired floors give this São Paulo spot a distinct Rio vibe

SettCoaching
In the morning, I go to my boxing class in a gym called SettCoaching, and the class is called Funcional Fight, which is a mix of squats and other exercises with the fighting. It’s intense but very nice—I hate going to the gym and doing normal things.

SPLENDID AFTERNOON

Manish Restaurante
There’s a big Lebanese community in São Paulo. There’s so many places that I love. There’s one Lebanese restaurant called Manish, which is very nice. I go there for lunch because it’s near my office. There’s this dish called esticadinha, which is like an esfiha, but it’s very, very thin, so it’s not really heavy. And the fried kibe is amazing. They also have great caipirinhas.

Rua Oscar Freire
In São Paulo, you have a few malls that people like to go to. The Cidade Jardim, where the Ralph Lauren store is opening, is one of the best. It’s so beautiful, and you have all the big brands there. And there’s a street called Oscar Freire that has many stores, and it’s very nice to walk around there. It’s so pretty with all the trees, and they also have a few cafés and ice cream places. If you don’t want to be indoors, it’s a nice place to shop.

Marcos Proença Cabeleireiros and Shiatsu Luiza Sato
When I have free time, I like to pamper myself. I go to Marcos Proença to get my nails done, or my hair. Then I go to the Luiza Sato spa for a massage; they do shiatsu massage, which I’m obsessed with.

“Everything is happening and so easy; I love that about it.”

EXUBERANT EVENING

Kinoshita
I’ve never been to Japan, but I think Kinoshita must be better—it must be the best in the world. It’s so nice. It’s in a neighborhood called Vila Nova Conceição. The food is just unbelievable. I love going there with my boyfriend or friends. It’s traditional in that it’s not fusion, but it’s not a traditional Japanese place. It’s a little bit fancy. I order the Salmon Butter, which is salmon with a butter and citrus sauce, and also there’s the Salmon Crispy; they get the tempura and do the crispy thing on top—it’s ah, so good!

Hotel Fasano São Paulo
I love the Fasano hotel. The spa is amazing and the pool is very nice. The bar is called Baretto, which sometimes I go to with my friends, or we stay in the lobby of the hotel and have drinks. The restaurant is one of the best in São Paulo; it’s called the Restaurante Fasano. The food is unbelievable—it’s really, really good. It’s more fancy, more dressed up, but it’s very nice.

Catch an intimate live jazz performance at Baretto, the cozy bar within the family-run Hotel Fasano São Paulo

Bar Número
Número is a restaurant, but downstairs they have a little club, kind of like Butter was in NYC. It’s a small place, but it’s pretty people and the food is good upstairs. It’s a very nice atmosphere.

São Paulo’s sleek and narrow Bar Número is an architectural gem designed by local legend, Isay Weinfeld

Provocateur
If you want to go party party, there’s Provocateur. It’s the same one as in New York that they opened in São Paulo. They always have good DJs playing, and it’s always fun. Everyone arrives around 1 a.m. and stays until 5 or 6. It’s crazy.
